Christopher Nicholas Bangs

Christopher Nicholas Bangs is a film and TV composer and music producer based in the UK. Recent notable composing projects include the score for the Apple TV+ show ‘WeCrashed’, staring Oscar award-wining actors Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway, and the Netflix / Film 4 feature-length musical ‘Been So Long’, staring Michaela Cole and Arinze Kene.

Christopher established himself as a feature film composer in 2011 with his contemporary score for ‘Junkhearts’, directed by BAFTA award-winning director Tinge Krishnan, staring Eddie Marsan, Romola Garai and John Boyega. The film won awards at both at the BFI London Film Festival and the Moscow International Film Festival, where it received the award for ‘Best Film’. Mixing urgent scratchy synth textures with washes of guitar feedback and live concert harp, the score was long-listed for an Ivor Novello.

Other notable features range from the 2013 documentary ‘Battle of The Sexes’ directed by James Erskine and Zara Hayes, which provided the inspiration for the 2017 film of the same name; the dark and claustrophobic electronic score for the 2014 London-based feature length thriller ‘Panic’, directed by Sean Spenser and staring David Gyasi; and the road-trip comedy ‘Highly Functional’, directed by Marc Forby and starring Bruce Campbell, Judge Reinhold, James Frecheville and Missi Pyle. In the case of this latter project, Christopher not only composed the score but Christopher also co-wrote and produced the songs which appear in the movie, and worked closely with the director and lead actor on set in New Mexico to create convincing stage performances as well as directing the backing band.

In 2017 he began work on award-wining musical feature film ‘Been So Long’. Working on the project from conception to completion in 2018, Christopher both produced and arranged the original songs, from Che Walker and Arthur Davill’s original stage musical, and composed the score, working closely with the sound team and the director to capture live on-set singing. This allowed the action to shift seamlessly from song to score and back again. Produced by Greenacre Films, BFI and Channel 4 Films, and staring Michaela Cole and Arinze Kene, Been So Long went on to be the biggest ever purchase of a UK film by Netflix and was released in 2018. The soundtrack album was released on Universal Music.

On the TV / streaming side, 2019 saw Christopher provide the score to award wining series ‘Soon Gone: A Windrush Chronicle’ for the BBC and Young Vic, produced by Douglas Road / Endemol, which screened on BBC4 and won a Screen Nation Award that same year. More recently, he composed the music for the eight-part Apple TV+ show ‘WeCrashed’, starring Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway, which premiered in March 2022.

As a music producer, Christopher has co-written and produced with a number of young and up and coming artists, including Livvy Nicole, Scarlet (Hedara), Kerri Watt, Me For Queen and Jessica Sharman, as well as producing his own music under the monikers of Shadow Orchestra and Talk In Colour. Evolving into a 5-piece live outfit, Talk In Colour received regular plays on Radio 6 Music, performed at numerous festival and gigs around the UK and appeared on a high profile sync for Calvin Klein. In 2017 he produced and engineered the album ‘My Own Company’ for the indie-dance band PolSky. He has most recently been working with award-wining Afro-Futurist electronic artist and performer Nwando Embizie on a new album for Accidental Records.
